Different types of..ARCHERY
Archery has
developed as a sport from its origins as a weapon of war, it is
practiced in most countries in the world and there are many different
types of bows and styles of archery.
Target
archery
Arrows are shot in
ends of six from a fixed shooting line at targets, usually made of straw
or foam. Distances range from 100 yards/ 90 metres for men and 80 yards/
70 metres for women down to 30 yards/ 30 metres. There are different
types of “rounds”, some are shot in yards and other
international rounds are shot in metres. Each round has a different name
and is a combination of different distances e.g. a York round for men is
6 dozen arrows @ 100 yds,4 dozen arrows @ 80 yds and 2 dozen arrows @ 50
yds.
Field Archery
Field archery is
far less formal than target and involves moving around a present course,
usually in woodland, shooting at targets set in different locations from
a marker peg. The skills in field archery are the ability to judge
distances at “unmarked” targets ( some rounds are marked, i.e. you
know what the distance is), and how to adjust for an uphill or downhill shot. The
distances involved are shorter than target but again shot in ends of 6
arrows and there are different types of rounds.
Clout Archery
Clout is
different from field and target in that arrows are
shot at a large target on the ground by aiming at a flag pole set in the
ground. A large area is required to shoot clout as the distances
involved are greater than target.
